Casa Mila

Reading about Nite's Vietnam Tour, I realize I have left off my Euro tour narration since Oct 2007, the last post being here. Since my Yogyakarta trip is just around the corner ( two more weeks), I am hard pressed to finish my E Trip narration. After some counselling from Nite, I have decided to resume blogging my E trip and hope to complete it before the Y trip. Challenging.. maybe I should just out source the narration to her since I think she is the better writer.

Barcelona is an architect's heaven. You find the strangest buildings here and mostly the work of Gaudi. The last Gaudi building I visited before I call it a day is the Casa Milla or La Pedreda. It's an apartment without corners.

How do you put a square table in the corner ?

It was design with good ventilation in mind and taking in consideration the angle of light to maximised the brightness of the room. So the middle is in fact empty.

Asked Rain to take this pic as I was getting light-headed just looking down

But the most captivating thing is the chimneys on the roof top. They are molded like a soldier's helmet. Seen from far it looked like soldiers guarding the city. Very visionary. Ikea must have learn from Gaudi. Can we even catch up?

Parts were under repair and the scaffolding ruins the effect...

Who says we can't be functional and creative at the same time?
